PMS

Premenstrual Syndrome is one of the most common disorders a woman experiences during her reproductive years. Symptoms may include bloating, breast tenderness, anxiety, irritability, changes in appetite, poor concentration, sleep disturbance, and depression.

From the perspective of Western Medicine, PMS is understood as an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone levels. However, from the perspective of Traditional Eastern Medicine, the most important factor is emotional stress such as anger, frustration, and resentment which results in stagnation of liver qi, a primary cause of PMS.

Most Premenstrual Syndromes are caused by disruptions to the blood circulating throughout the body. In Traditional Eastern Medicine, PMS is caused by stagnation of the blood flow while menstrual cramps are caused by blood deficiency. Therefore, our PMS treatments focus on invigorating blood circulation and eliminating stagnation.

Our Uterine Care Therapy aims to increase the blood flow to the uterine by implementing intestinal yoga and heat therapy. Acupuncture and herbal medications are prescribed to tonify the blood and provide immediate relief of various premenstrual syndromes.

Menstruation Irregularities

At times women have irregular menstrual cycles or menstrual problems. They may not get their periods, or get them too frequently, or experience unexpected menstrual bleeding.

Foremost, our practitioners look into the possibility of pregnancy, inquire the pattern of bleeding and the duration of menstruation before proceeding with the treatment, which involves regulating the yin, yang, qi and the flow of blood.

Peri-Menopause to Post-Menopause

Menopause typically begins in the fifth to sixth decade of life and continues for an average of 4–5 years. Both estrogen levels typically begin to decline in the late-thirties, and eventually this hormone level drops to 90 percent around age 50-60. Due to this hormonal imbalance, most women suffer from hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, weight gain or insomnia. Also they might experience osteoporosis in post menopause due to lack of estrogen. Western Medicine relies on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to treat menopause symptoms. However, In the largest clinical trial to date, hormone replacement therapy that consisted of an estrogen-progestin pill (Prempro) increased the risk of certain serious conditions, including heart disease, stroke, blood clots and breast cancer. For this reason, some people choose non-hormonal therapies.

Traditional Eastern Medicine, on the other hand, offers a gentle, safe, and effective way to address menopause and its related conditions through natural pathways.
