Pregnancy and Postpartum Care

Pregnancy Back Pain

It is very common to get backache or back pain during pregnancy, especially in the early stages.

During pregnancy, the ligaments in your body naturally become softer and stretch to prepare you for labor. This can put a strain on the joints of your lower back and pelvis, which can cause back pain.

The good news is your baby is growing.

Here are some of the more likely causes:

Weight gain

Posture changes

Hormone changes

Muscle Separation

Emotional Stress

For thousands of years, Traditional Eastern Medicine has been treating common discomforts during pregnancy. Please consult with your practitioner for more details.

Post-Partum Healthy Mother's Program

Surely the newborn will require most of your attention, but It is important to tend to your own health condition as well, considering your body’s precarious state after giving birth.  Loose joint ligaments increase chances of injury; hormonal imbalance can cause mood disorders; breastfeeding, taking care of the baby, and recovering from the taxing process of childbirth or C-section are all extremely demanding for the body and the mind.  Therefore, in some cultures, such as in East Asia, the mother is kept from physical activity for the first 3 weeks after birth. Our Healthy Mother Program is designed with a new mother's wellbeing in mind.  By providing acupuncture, herbal medication, AMA therapy, and postpartum acupressure therapy, we aim to help new mothers recover from the rewarding but intense experience of giving birth, and provide them with the best possible care and support they deserve.

Post-Partum Depression (PPD) Care

After giving birth, you may experience mood swings - being happy one second, and then enraged or depressed the next.  You may also lose your focus, appetite, and sleep.  Such symptoms are a natural part of early motherhood and usually they go away 10 days after the delivery.  However, some women have a far more intense experience and the symptoms could last for more than 10 days.

When women experience moderate to severe depression after giving birth, we call this postpartum depression (PPD). PPD can occur right after delivery, or even a year later. However, the symptoms may be observed within the first 4 weeks after the delivery.

Traditional Eastern Medicine diagnoses the root cause of PPD as blood deficiency due to excessive blood loss during childbirth, and it tends to be more severe for women with pre-existing blood deficiency. This blood deficiency is likely to cause blood stasis in organs, such as the liver and kidney, eventually developing into a yin deficiency.

Postnatal depression responds very well to acupuncture and herbs, and in many cases, it can be treated in a short amount of time.

Postnatal psychosis is more difficult to treat and in severe cases, herbal treatment should be combined with Western medication, especially if the mother is suicidal or destructive towards the baby.

Breech Baby

Normally, baby positions are head down in preparation for birth, but About 3-4% of pregnant women end up with a baby who is in breech position (bottom first) at term. It makes a difficult delivery. In that reason, 90% babies are born from C-section. However, many of women want to natural childbirth.

Acupuncture and moxibustion can be a solution of this problem. Timing is the most important thing for best result. 30-38 weeks is considered but 34 weeks is ideal to processor. Through the consultation you can make the plan.
